Follow the Tracks to the Library

Norma Bozenmayer, Virginia Master Naturalist, led an educational program about animal tracks during a recent Story Time at the Library.

A special Story Time at the Library was all about animal tracks, with books that included “Forest Tracks,” by Dee Dee Duffy, “Hey, Who Made This Mess,” by Primo Gallanosa, “Who’s Been Here” by Fran Hodgkins, read by children’s librarian Sam Edmondson.

The book readings followed the program about animal tracks by Virginia Master Naturalist Norma Bozenmayer. Participants examined models of animal feet, models of animal scat and tracks. They learned how the shape of the foot told a story about whether an animal swam or climbed. The animal scat gave evidence of what an animal had been eating.

Children made ink prints of the feet and then placed tiles of animal tracks in the Books, Blooms and Bugs Garden for others to see.

Lots of information about animal tracks can be found at the library. The animal feet and scat used for the program can be viewed at the Fairy Stone State Park Visitors Center.
