The Patrick County Community Food Bank continues to serve the clients of this area during this very trying time. Volunteers continue to show up, pack boxes, and serve despite the impending concern for health and safety.

The food bank was most appreciative to the clients for understanding and bearing with the volunteers while a new normal brought about much change. Volunteers greeted clients in a drive-through check-in and delivery system in March. The transition went smoothly, and the new system will become the new norm  as state and local authorities enforce methods to keep residents safe.

As need rises over the coming months, the food bank will have a new system for intake and distribution. Please note that regular clients, who are currently in the system, registered, and receiving monthly boxes, should make every attempt to be at the morning pick-up. The food bank will be taking new recipients during the afternoon hours only.  This decision has been made to ensure that regular clients receive boxes first thing during morning distribution. The food bank understands the need is great and is working to meet that need.

The local food bank receives USDA food based on distribution numbers over the three months prior to that distribution date. The rest of the items are either donated or purchased with donor funds that have been contributed to the food bank. The most recent months have averaged around 215 clients receiving boxes. This month, the food bank will have some additional boxes for distribution as the expectation is for an increase in need. However, new recipients need only come in the afternoon for pick-up.

The food bank will also continue distribution in the Ararat area. The location has changed. Clients should meet the distribution team at the Ararat Ruritan Club parking lot, located at 4711 Ararat Hwy, Ararat, for normal distribution times.

During this difficult time, the food bank would like to extend a thank you to those who continue to donate to the need in Patrick County, whether in the form of food, monetary donations, or volunteerism. You are so greatly appreciated.

Distribution will be on Wednesday, April 15.
