Fourth of July at Vesta to feature music competition

The Vesta Bluegrass and Old Time Music Competition will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, July 4 at the Vesta Community Center on Community Drive. (Rain date is July 5.)
The location is off Rt. 58 between Vesta Supply and the Vesta Post Office, four miles east of the Blue Ridge Parkway.
The opening ceremony will be presented by Patrick County Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 8467.
Competition categories will be banjo, fiddle, guitar, mandolin, bands, vocals and flatfooting in three levels: children, teens and adults.
For individual musicians, prizes will be $12 for first place, $10 for second place, and $5 for third place. For bands, prizes will be $50 for first place, $30 for second place, and $20 for third place.
There will be games for the children and food for everyone, including hot dogs, barbecue, homemade lemonade, soft drinks and desserts.
A quilt show will be presented by the Mountain Top Quilters. Buy a chance and you might win a beautiful, handmade quilt. Call Brenda at 276-694-2001 for more information.
Those attending are asked to bring your own lawn chairs. Chairs may not be removed from the community building.
