Frances Hylton Payne, 92, of Madison, N.C., died Saturday, February 18, 2017, at her home.

Frances, born in Woolwine on July 30, 1924, was the daughter of George and Della Hylton. She was preceded in death by her husband James B. Payne; her, son Charles O. Payne; her brother, Henry Hylton; and sisters Pricilla Midkiff, Audna Harbour, Winnie Hylton, and Tiney Thomas.

Surviving are her daughters, Mary Jane Payne, Gloria Payne Horne and her husband John, and daughter-in-law Kay Neal Payne; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was member of Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. She and her husband James were dairy and tobacco farmers. She also worked at Sears in Greensboro.

A funeral service was held on Tuesday, February 21 at Colonial Funeral Home in Madison. Burial was in Woolwine United Methodist Church cemetery in Woolwine.

Memorial contributions may be made to Kallam Grove Christian Church Youth Program, 1390 Gold Hill Rd, Madison, NC 27025.

The family would like to thank the staff of Hospice of Rockingham County for their care during the past week.
