Fred Lester Boyd, Sr., 79, of Bassett, died Friday, April 22, 2016, at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
He was born on May 28, 1936 in Meadows of Dan, and was a son of the late James Henry Boyd and the late Ella Mae Hughes Boyd. He was preceded in death by eight brothers, Gordon, David, Robert, Ralph, Forrest and John Boyd, James Ballies and Coy Grant.
Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Emma Towe Boyd; one daughter, Anita Sebastian of Bassett; sons, Fred “Buddy” Boyd Jr. and Christopher Boyd, both of Axton, Michael Boyd Sr., of Bassett, Timothy “T.J.” Boyd of Fork Mountain and Brian Boyd of Fieldale; sisters, Phyllis Cline of Hastings, Neb., and Laura Jackson of Blue Hill, Neb.; brother, Isaac “Hook” Boyd of Meadows of Dan; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. today (Wednesday) in the chapel of Bassett Funeral Service with Pastor Doug Ramsey officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Burial Park.
