Gene Scott Bowes, 84, of Valdosta, Ga., passed away on February 21, 2016, at his residence.
He was born on January 14, 1932, in Lakewood, Ohio, to Sidney Mason Bowes and Alice (Benton) Bowes. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Joseph Sidney Bowes.
He served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Mr. Bowes worked for over 40 years selling in the commercial carpeting industry where he earned much recognition as a member of the elite President’s Club of Tandus Corporation.
He was an Eagle Scout and won the 1946 Court of Honor along with his brother, Joe.
Since moving to Valdosta (2007), he had been a member of Crossroads Baptist Church and a supporter of the St. John’s Youth Choir and school.
Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Timothy Murphy of Valdosta; grandchild, Abigail Murphy of Valdosta; niece and nephews, Kathleen Bowes of Jacksonville, Fla., Thomas Bowes, David Bowes, and James Bowes of Columbia Station, Ohio, along with many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service was held at 5 p.m. on Saturday, February 27, 2016 in the chapel of Music Funeral Services. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Boy Scouts of America at http://aplacetogive.scouting.org/#setCouncil.
