Mr. George Glenn Lawson, 80 of Stuart, passed away Thursday, May 2, 2019 at Sovah Health of Martinsville. He was born in Patrick County on November 23, 1938 to the late Will and Louise Lawson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruby Gammons, Frances Bullins; and three brothers, Thomas, Bobby, and Joe Lawson. George served as a longtime driver for the Patrick County Developmental Center until his retirement. He provided the utmost care as he transported each individual and served as a substitute driver when called upon. He was a “jack of all trades” and an avid Atlanta Braves fan. He had worked in the textile industry and was a security guard for Hooker Furniture.
Surviving are his beloved wife, Charlene Haley Lawson of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Tommy DeHart of Stuart; one son, Tim Lawson of Stuart; two grandchildren, Stacie Mabe and husband, Allan Coleman DeHart; five great grandchildren, Maddie, Ella, Easton, Holden, and Abby Mabe; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Lou and Rayvon Heath of Pine Hall, N.C., Betty Sue and Larry Heath of Pine Hall, N.C., Nancy and Bobby Martin of Madison, N.C., Lucy and Jessie Holder of Madison, N.C.; two brothers and sister-in-law, Bill and Lucy Lawson of Madison, N.C., Harry Lee Lawson of Germanton, N.C.; special nieces, Penny Belcher, Christy Riester, Jessica Moricle; a special nephew, Robert Haley; several other nieces and nephews; and his little dog, Tidbit.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 6, 2019 at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastor J.R. Vipperman officiating. Burial was in the Five Forks Wesleyan Church Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent to www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
