Gladys Watkins Sheffield, 92, formerly of Axton, died Monday, July 11, 2016, at Blue Ridge Rehab.
She was born October 3, 1923, in North Carolina and was a daughter of the late Clyde Benjamin and Pearl Clark Watkins. She was also preceded in death by her stepmother, Annie Mae Purdy Watkins, who raised her; her husband, Thomas King Sheffield; three brothers, Bill, Maynard, and Robert Jackson Watkins; and two sisters, Eva Brennen and Eunice Burnette.
She was a member of Freedom Baptist Church, and retired from Pannill Knitting Co. with 40 years of service.
She is survived by two daughters, Lorrie Sheffield of Axton and Karen Blankenship of Ridgeway; and one goddaughter, Marsha Walker of Axton; three brothers, Doug Watkins of Bassett, Donnie Watkins of Henry, and Glen Watkins of Patrick Springs; four sisters, Polly Jones of Martinsville, Jeanette Gill of Winston-Salem, N.C., Deborah Price of Henry, and Cheryl Wells of Collinsville; one granddaughter and one great-granddaughter.
Her funeral service was held Thursday in the Roselawn Chapel with Pastor Jimmy Nester officiating. Burial was in Roselawn Burial Park.
