Glen A. Rakes, 88, of175 Applegate Ln., Bassett,  passed away on Thursday, March 14, 2019. He was born on June 26, 1930 in Patrick County, to the late Homer Rakes and Lena Bramer Rakes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Wavie Smart Rakes; daughter, Susan St. Lawrence; and brothers, George, Clyde, Alvin Faluse, and Davis Rakes.


Mr. Rakes retired from J.P. Stevens in 1995 and served in the Marines. He attended Mayo Baptist Church in Spencer.

He is survived by his grandson, Fletcher St. Lawrence and wife, Susan St. Lawrence, of Jonesboro, Tenn.; and sisters, Elaine Adkins of Cleveland, Ohio, Lorene Guillians of Rocky Mount, VA, and Frances Lyon of Woolwine, VA.

A funeral service was held on Monday, March 18, 2019 at Norris Funeral Services, Martinsville Chapel. Minister David Deisher officiated.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Mayo Baptist Church, 85 Penn Store Rd., Spencer 24165.
