June is Great Outdoors Month and Saturday, June 11, is National Get Outdoors Day, also known as GO Day, a great day to GO to a Virginia State Park.
The 36 Virginia State Parks are open 365 days a year, but the summer is special with swimming, boating, paddle boards and more ranger-led programming to help first-time visitors reconnect youngsters to the great outdoors. Special GO Day programs will help families enjoy hiking, archery, fishing, paddling, geocaching, biking, tubing, swimming, campfire cooking and much more.
Many programs are free. Some require advance registration or have small fees in addition to the daily parking fee. Check the program details for GO Day here: http://bit.ly/2016GetOutdoorsDay.
GO Day is right in the middle of the Virginia State Parks Get Outdoors! Challenge. Visit five different state parks between May 21 and June 30 and earn an annual Virginia State Parks Passport good for free parking at all Virginia State Parks. For details on the challenge, visit http://bit.ly/GetOutdoorsChallenge.
Virginia State Parks are managed by the Virginia Department of Conservation and Recreation. For more information about Virginia State Parks activities and amenities or to make a reservation for one of the more than 1,800 campsites or 300 climate-controlled cabins, call the Virginia State Parks Customer Service Center at (800) 933-7275 or visit www.virginiastateparks.gov.
