Patrick & Henry Community College’s Great Expectations program is the recipient of $2,000.00 in emergency funds from Virginia Foundation for Community College Education in partnership with Anthem Healthkeepers. The funding will equitably assist Great Expectations students, providing direct student funding in emergency situations including but not limited to food and housing insecurities, transportation issues, academic supply needs, and childcare expenses.
“Many of our students rely on scholarships and other assistance to stay in school. We are so grateful to the Virginia Foundation for Community College Education (VFCCE) for their continued support and assistance in securing these important funds from Anthem HealthKeepers. Their commitment to student success ensures our students will have access to a quality education and the support they need to complete their degree,” said P&HCC Associate Vice President of Institutional Advancement and P&HCC Foundation Executive Director Tiffani Underwood.
Great Expectations is a program that empowers Virginia’s foster youth through active support and access to higher education. The program’s mission is to mitigate barriers for students who have experienced foster care as they complete a course of study. Great Expectations students are paired with an adult coach to work together to assess student skills and interests and plan for the student’s future.
“We greatly appreciate Anthem contributing to the cause of the Great Expectations program, which is to help these students achieve program completion,” said Great Expectations coach Briana Koger.
