Mr. Leon Hancock, age 80 of Bassett, passed away Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at his home. He was born in Patrick County on June 14, 1943, to the late Robert Lem Hancock and Irene Elizabeth Joyce Hancock. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Jean Lewis, Janet Hancock; and one brother, Johnny Hancock. Leon was a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting but his main passion was fishing.

Surviving is his loving wife of 60 years, Bonnie Wright Hancock of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Bryan and Phyllis Hancock of Chase City, Alan and Kelly Hancock of Martinsville; five grandchildren, Naomi Stone (Justin), Alycia Holt (Cody), Kacie Winesette (Andrew), Kelcie Nester (John), Jessica Wheeler (Matt); seven great grandchildren, Aiden, Andon, Kyleigh, Oakley, Madison, Cole, Tate; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Helen and Ray Shough of Patrick Springs, Kathy and Wink Parnell of Bassett; two brothers and a sister-in-law, Wilford and Joann Hancock of Patrick Springs, Kenny Hancock of Bassett; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday, September 29, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Pleasant View Baptist Church with Dr. Joey McNeill officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 to 8 at the church. Online condolences may be sent to www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
