Harry Lee Bowman, Sr., age 83, of Ararat, passed away Sunday, November 20, 2016, at Golden Living of Galax.
He was born in Patrick County on May 6, 1933 to John and Lillie Young Bowman. In addition to his parents, Mr. Bowman was preceded in death by a brother, Archie “Buster” Bowman.
He worked for Renfro Corp. for over 30 years and later owned and operated Blue Ridge Grocery. He will be dearly missed by all his devoted family and many friends.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Juanita Dawson Bowman; a daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Tim Dowell; sons and daughters-in-law, Harry Jr. and Jean Bowman; and John and Melissa Bowman; grandchildren, Crystal Bowman, Shannon Bowman and partner Teddy, Kevin Bowman, Brandon Dowell and wife Brittany, Lyndsi Dowell, Haley Bowman and Jesse Bowman; great-grandchildren, Cyrus and Orion; and a sister, Janie B. Sutphin.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. Roger Gilbert. Burial followed in Hunter’s Chapel Church cemetery with military honors by Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard.
The family received friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
