Patrick County Circuit Court Judge Marcus A. Brinks on Sunday, Nov. 6, signed an order to provide for the continued operations of the Patrick County Circuit Court Clerk’s Office in the absence of Circuit Court Clerk Sherri Hazlewood.

“The Court finds that the Circuit Court Clerk, by reason of mental and/or physical disability, is unable to perform her duties,” the order stated.

In the same order, Brinks appointed Deputy Clerk Morgan Boothe to assume the duties of the office in Hazlewood’s absence, effective Nov. 7.

“I am very grateful for this opportunity to perform the duties of interim Clerk of Court. I wish nothing by the best for Sherri. She has taught me a lot over the years, and I will continue to pray for her well-being,” said Boothe, who has worked in the clerk’s office for more than five years. She also has served as the bookkeeper, along with a myriad of other duties, for three years.

“I have been trained on various clerical duties. As I plan to run for Clerk of Court in the upcoming election, I have several new plans and ideas to make this office run more effectively,” Boothe said, and added “the teamwork in this office has been unbelievable these past few months. Everyone is quick to lend a hand wherever it is needed. We all truly care for each other and this office.”

Hazlewood, 54, of Claudville, was arrested twice in less than a week on charges in Patrick and Bland counties. She has not been convicted of any wrongdoing.
