A recent Storytime was all about birds. A large crowd of children listened to the reading ofÂ
Look! Birds! by Stephanie Calmenson, The Lost Bird by David McPhail, To Bird or Not to Bird by S.J. Russell and Lucy Noland by children’s librarian Sam Edmundson.Â
The children then imitated bird calls from several garden birds. Carolina Wren, “teakettle, teakettle, teakettle.” The Black- Capped Chickadee’s “feebee,” Eastern Bluebird’s “cheer, cheerful. Charmer,” the Tufted Titmouse’s “peter, peter, peter” and the American Goldfinch’s “per-chik-o-ree, babee.”Â
Youngsters then made birds out of recycled toilet paper rolls decorating them with their favorite bird colors. After some weatherproofing, the birds will be displayed in the Books, Blooms and Bugs Garden at the library for all visitors to see. Â
The bird program was led by Master Gardeners Jess Hines and Norma Bozenmayer. The group will return in October with a program on spiders and some bulb planting. Visit or call the library about other fun educational programs.
