obit-ayers-henryHenry Gale Ayers, age 77, of Stuart, passed away Thursday, September 15, 2016, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem, N.C.
He was born in Forsyth County, N.C., on November 17, 1938. He was preceded in death by his father, Clark Henry Ayers; his mother, Fairy Redmond Ayers Clark; his stepfather, H. Strother Clark; and a sister, Barbara Sauls.
He had received his bachelor’s degree from High Point University. He had been the executive director of PARC Workshop for over 30 years and was a longtime member of New Hope United Methodist Church where he held various titles.
Ayers was a member of the Stuart Rotary Club for over 50 years where he was a past president, and a Paul Harris Fellow. He had been chairman of the Patrick County Agricultural Fair for over 30 years, and was president of the Patrick County Historical Society for many years.
Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Brenda Goard Ayers of the home; two sons, Brad Ayers of Stuart and Brent Ayers of Jamestown, N.C.; five grandchildren, Bethany Ayers, Jessica Ayers Collette, Skye Ayers, Joshua Ayers and Leandra Ayers; and two great-grandchildren, Jakob and Katalina Collette.
Funeral services were held Monday at New Hope United Methodist Church with Pastors Tammy Franklin, Keith Vernon and R.C. Redmond officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Memorial donations may be made to PARC Workshop, 674 Wood Brothers Drive, Stuart, VA 24171 or to New Hope United Methodist Church, c/o Carroll Eastridge, 2789 Wayside Road, Stuart, Va., 24171.
