The Crooked Road will present a slate of heritage music at the Birthplace of Country Music Museum’s performance space during Bristol’s Rhythm & Roots Reunion on September 9 – 11 in Bristol VA/TN.
The museum’s performance stage will be filled with sounds of old-time, bluegrass and guitar throughout the weekend with the following performers:
Twin Creeks Stringband has a traditional old time sound drawn deeply from the local traditions of Southwest Virginia. Their compelling combination of string band dance numbers with a classic song repertoire has entertained audiences throughout the region. They won best Old Time band at the 2022 Galax Old Fiddlers Convention.
Linda & David Lay performing as a duo at Rhythm & Roots, are key members of the bluegrass band Springfield Exit. Linda has played since a child, starting with her family’s band, mastering guitar, bass and autoharp and then founding Appalachian Trail. Linda has played all over, including the Carter Family Fold, on Cracker Barrel Heritage Series CDs and at the Library of Congress. David grew up with Southern Gospel roots, playing bass and then moving to guitar. He is a versatile rhythm guitar player and blends his singing with Linda.
ShadowGrass formed in 2014 when a group of young musicians joined together at local fiddler’s conventions in SWVA and Western North Carolina. The group has evolved to be one of the most exciting young bands in bluegrass. They have won awards and toured around the United States sharing their fast picking bluegrass and fresh arrangements.
The Brothers Young is a brother duo playing traditional bluegrass music in the Blue Ridge mountains. Influenced by both Earl Scruggs and Ricky Skaggs, as week at other legends such as Ralph Stanley and the Osborne Brothers, the brothers play banjo and mandolin and have won numerous awards at regional fiddlers conventions.
Empty Bottle String Band formed at a local farmers market and bonded over the group’s shared love of old time music and dance. The group has grown as a band and has performed across the Appalachian region and east coast.
