Buttercream & Blessings Bakehouse, a new home bakery, is offering gourmet cookies and other chocolate treats for those with a sweet tooth.
Megan Hall said she started the venture in April because of her love for baking.
“I’ve always enjoyed baking and cooking and creating things, and it was just something I decided to do after many years of people telling me to do it,” she said.
While she primarily creates gourmet cookies, Hall said she also bakes brownies, cupcakes and other treats.
“The gourmet cookies are the main thing,” she said, adding they are similar to Crumbl Cookies. “Basically, they’re not typical cookies, they’re stuffed. Like I have a caramel stuffed Twix cookie, and it’s stuffed with caramel, chunks of Twix candy, with a melted chocolate ganache on top,” she said.
So far, Hall said she has 20 different flavors of cookies that are either stuffed or covered with extra toppings, including strawberry cheesecake, Fruity Pebbles, Biscoff, brown butter chocolate chip and more.
In addition to her standard 3.5-ounce cookies, Hall also offers 2-ounce mini cookies.
“The 3.5-ounce is almost the size of my hand, so they’re bigger cookies. I’ve had people tell me they would probably eat half, like no one can really sit and eat a full one at a time,” she said.
While her customers’ favorites seem to be her banana pudding and cosmic brownie cookies, Hall said her favorite to make are Biscoff cookies.
“It’s a white chocolate chip Biscoff with a Biscoff drizzle, and it’s got chunks of the Biscoff cookies that you get at the store in it and it’s topped with it too,” Hall said.
Hall estimates she makes anywhere from 100 to 150 cookies a week.
In addition to taking orders, Hall also sets up a booth at Fairy Stone State Park’s Monday Market and at the Sunset Market in Meadows of Dan. She is also looking at setting up at other markets and events in the county.
“I’m definitely learning as I go, but the farmers’ markets have been awesome,” she said.
Noting that she homeschools her three children, Hall said her goal is to make Buttercream & Blessings her full-time job.
“I do it regularly, but I’m hoping it will be more than a side hustle thing. The goal is eventually for it to be a full-time business,” she said.
To help with this, Hall said she’s looking to expand her operation out of her home’s kitchen and into a commercial kitchen.
“That is hopefully going to be the goal. I have been looking for an industrial-sized kitchen to rent occasionally, but it’s kind of limited around here,” she said.
Hall said Buttercream & Blessings is also a Christian-based business.
“Most of the time I give out little cards and things with Bible verses, and I do pray over every cookie that goes out,” she said.
