The slogan for the Homestead Hikers March 11 hike was “no snow, the hike’s a go!” The weatherman’s forecast was a couple of days off, so 18 hikers gathered on the pleasant Sunday afternoon at Riverside Park in Mount Airy, N.C.

Led by Linda Agee, the group hiked the out-and-back 2.2 mile Ararat River Greenway Trail from Riverside Park to Tharrington Park. This section of the Ararat River has been restored and is a great area for wildlife viewing, biking, hiking/walking, kayaking, canoeing, and trout fishing.

The Homestead Hikers saw several fishermen, but alas, no sign of any fish. There are multiple canoe/kayak/tube launch stations along the trail as well as many opportunities to just sit and enjoy the river.

The Homestead Hikers’ April hike will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 8, led by Lucy Rudd. This hike will be on a section of The New River Trail. Club members will receive an email with additional details.

Anyone who would like to join the Homestead Hikers, please send an email to HomesteadHikers@gmail.com.
