Celebrations to mark the July 4 holiday will be held this year in Vesta and Stuart.

An old-fashioned Independence Day celebration will be held July 3 at DeHart Park in Stuart.

The festivities kickoff at 10:30 a.m. with a Children’s Parade. Participants are asked to arrive by 10:15. Groups and ball teams are scheduled to walk in the parade.

A flag raising ceremony with Cub Scouts Pack 69 also will be held at 10:30 a.m., with Lacey Harbour to perform the National Anthem.

A Car Cruise-In also begins at 10 a.m. and runs until 2 p.m.

The pool opens at 11 a.m., with family pool time and games until 8 p.m.

Kyle Martin will perform on the tennis courts from 8 to 9:30 p.m., when the fireworks display begins.

The pool will reopen on Sunday, July 4, from 1 to 7 p.m. with games and family pool time.

The Vesta Community Center will hold a Bluegrass and Old Time Music Competition from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The competition categories are banjo, fiddle, guitar, mandolin, bands, vocals, and flatfooting. There will be three levels of competition – Children, Teens, and Adults.

Prizes for individual competitions are $15 for 1st place, $10 for 2nd place, and $5 for 3rd place.

Bands will win $50 for 1st place, $30 for 2nd place, and $20 for 3rd place.

A Quilt Show by Mountain Top Quilters will be held.

Bring your own lawn chairs. Hotdogs, homemade lemonade, soft drinks, and desserts will be available.

The rain date for competitions is Monday, July 5.
