India Darling “Dot” Williams Haynes, 85, of Gwynwood Drive, Mount Airy, N.C., died Friday, January 29, 2016, at her home.
She was born January 19, 1931, in Patrick County, one of 11 children born to the late John Preston and Grace Rorrer Williams. She was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Johnny Ray Davis; four sisters, Mary Baldwin, Bernice Shafford, Tecora Quesinberry, and Juanita Rogers; three brothers, John “Buck” Williams, Robert “Bobby” Williams, and Jimmy Lee Williams; and a special friend, Joe Durham.
She retired from Quality Mills and was a member of Welcome Baptist Church. She was affectionately known as “Mama Dot” to her grandchildren and dear friends.
She is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Barbara and Dean Atkins and Metha Jo Davis, all of Mount Airy; a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Barbara Willard of Dobson, N.C.; five grandchildren; six stepgrandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; eight great-stepgrandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two great-great-stepgrandchildren; one sister, Genell Williams of Bassett; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Frank D. and Karen Williams of Sparta, N.C., and Joel P. and Margaret Williams of State Road, N.C.
The funeral service was held Tuesday at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy with the Rev. Barry O’Neal officiating. Burial was in Skyline Memory Gardens.
The family wishes to express gratitude for the love and compassion shown by Heather Puckett at Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care.
