Irene Handy Joyce

Irene Handy Joyce, 95, of Ridgeway, Virginia passed away on Monday, July 14, 2025 at Sovah Health in Martinsville.

A native of Patrick County but lived most of her life in Henry County. Irene was born October 27, 1929 to the late Daniel Lee and Callie Mae Handy.

Irene was a retiree of DuPont with thirty-nine years of service. After the death of her young daughter Keela Joyce Bing, she chose to do part-time work. Irene being a people person chose to work at Belk’s, CVS, Hallmark, 250 Cleaners and school cafeterias.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of sixty years, Harold (Bill) Joyce; daughter, Keela Joyce Bing; all of her siblings, Myrtle H. Goard, Pauline H. Clifton, J.D. Handy, Thelma H. Spangler and Delcie Mae Blades.

She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and loving friends, especially Katie Hodge, Katie Yates and Betty Wagoner; special care givers and nieces, Belinda Blades and Paula Blades.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 19, 2025 at Rich Acres Baptist Church, 78 Stewart Ridge Road, Martinsville, Virginia with Pastor Gary Hughes and Mike Chrismon officiating. Burial will follow service at Mountain View Cemetery, Ridgeway, VA. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Colonial Funeral Home in Madison is serving the family. Condolences may be offered to the family at www.colonialfh.net
