James Richard Biggs, 86, of Stuart, died on Monday, May 6, 2019 at his home.

He was born on January 28, 1933 in Patrick County to the late Sarah Greenwood Biggs and John Wesley Biggs. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel Light Biggs; three brothers, Garland Wayne Biggs, Hobbart Biggs, Junior Henry Biggs; two sisters, Ester Myrtle Biggs, Minnie Catherine Biggs Harris; one daughter, Henrietta Biggs; and one step-son, Donald Clay Light.

Surviving are two sons, Kenneth Ellis Biggs (Linda) of Critz, Richard Edward Biggs of Warner Cove, N.C.; three step-sons, Billy Hopkins Light of Collinsville, David Raymond Light of Stuart, Frances Allen Williams of Texas; three sisters, Dorothy Pauline Biggs Martin of Patrick Springs, Brenda Faye Biggs Pack of Stuart, Mary Magdalene Biggs Lewis of Fitzgerald, Ga.; one brother, Bobby C Biggs of Ga.; and seven grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.

He attended Stuart Presbyterian Church and served in the United States Army and was a machine operator until his retirement at United Elastic in Stuart. He loved his home in the country where he couldn’t wait to mow his yard with his nice lawnmower and love to laugh with his family and friends.

A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, at Norris Funeral Services in Stuart with the Reverend Danny Redmond officiating. Burial will be at Patrick Memorial Gardens in Stuart, with military rites by Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1 to 2 p.m. at Norris Funeral Services Chapel.
