JEB Stuart Art Show awards winners announced

Several artists from Patrick and Henry counties were among a slate of winners in the 44th annual JEB Stuart Art Show.

The Show Opening and Awards Reception, held on Sept. 6, attracted more than 100 people.

Judged by Callie Hiatala, executive director of the William King Museum of Fine Art in Abingdon, the show features 50 artists from Patrick, Henry and Carroll counties in Virginia, and Surry, Forsyth and Stokes counties in North Carolina.

Cheryl Sterling was the Best in Show Winner at the 44th annual JEB Stuart Art Show. The exhibit will hang at the Reynolds Homestead through Oct. 25.

Awards presented include:

Best in Show:

Cheryl Sterling, Patrick Springs — “Evening Glow”  Oil

 

Oil Painting:

1st Place:  Shirlene Layman, Stuart – “What’s Up Dock?”

2nd Place:  Joyce Wray, Fieldale – “From the Sea

3rd Place:  Teresa Foster, Bassett – “Peaceful”

 

Acrylic Painting:

1st Place:  Debbie Culler,  Ararat, Va. – “Peaceful Meadow”

2nd Place:  Sarah Booze, Walnut Cove, N.C. – “Moses Cone Trail”

3rd Place:  Brad Wright, Martinsville – “True Beauty”

Watercolor Painting:

1st Place:  Joan Norman, Dobson, N.C. – “Blue Heron”

2nd Place:  Greg Arens, Stuart – “Road above Grinton”

3rd Place:  Kelly McCarthy, Critz – “October Harvest”

Drawing:

1st Place:  Susan Morris, Lewisville, N.C. – “Dinnertime” Colored Pencil

2nd Place:  Linda Park, Martinsville – “Wake-Robin Trillium” Colored Pencil

3rd Place:  Brianna Speight, Mt. Airy, N.C. – “Terrific Tulips” Colored Pencil

Norma Bozenmayer received the Bull Mountain Arts Award at the 44th annual JEB Stuart Art Show held at the Reynolds Homestead in Critz.

2D Mixed Media and Collage:

1st Place:  Brad Wright, Martinsville – “Jesus and Lottery Tickets”

2nd Place:  Norma Bozenmayer, Stuart – “I Felt Like Flying Away”

3rd Place:  Julie Gammons, Mt. Airy, N.C. – “Barnyard Banty”

Three Dimensional:

1st Place:  Lora Mahaffey, Stuart – “The Horologium”

2nd Place:  David Lunt, Stuart – “Tea with the Mad Hatter”

3rd Place:  Mary Beth Morrow, Stuart – “Cat and Mouse”

Merit Awards:

Jon Handy, Axton – “A Fractal Wedding”

Brenda Jones, Hillsville – “Back Roads”

Bull Mountain Arts Award:

Norma Bozenmayer, Stuart – “Shell We Go Fishing?”

Chamber of Commerce Award:

Charles Hill, Martinsville – “Craig Creek Fall”

Reynolds Homestead Award:

Jo Ann Lawson, Martinsville – “Colorful Fern”

The exhibit will be displayed at the Reynolds Homestead through October 25.
