Mr. John Randolph Turner, age 72 of Roanoke, passed away Friday, August 11, 2023, at Lewis Gale Medical Center in Roanoke. He was born in Danville on December 20, 1950.  He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Randolph Turner. John had worked for the S.C.C. in the Bureau of Safety and Soundness for over 40 years. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of Spring Garden Community Church. Among the most treasured aspects of John’s life were the friendships he forged during his years at the University of Richmond. During his four years as a Spider at UR he was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity.  The friendships he formed during that span have lasted a lifetime. Thank you to the following “Brothers” who have enriched John’s life for 50 + years: Donald Baxter, Bill Webb, Chris Taylor (deceased), Danny Nichols, Ron Maelstrom, and Greg Williams.

Surviving is his loving wife of 31 years, Dr. Cheryl Mabe Turner of the home; his mother, Dorothy Grove Turner; two brothers and sister-in-law, Dr. Mark Grove Turner, Richard Charles and Susan Turner; and two nephews, Zachary Randolph Turner, and Richard Benjamin Turner.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at 2:00 PM at Patrick Memorial Gardens with Dr. Brad Smith officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Spring Garden Community Church, c/o Linda Owen, 1781 Transco Rd., Chatham, VA 24531. Online condolences may be sent to www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
