John William Hopkins, 74, of Martin Rd., Collinsville, died on Thursday, March 3, 2016, at his residence.
He was born on May 1, 1941 in Patrick County and was a son of the late Rosa Hubbard and Walter Thomas “Dud” Dudley Hopkins. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Nora Belle Hopkins; brothers, Paul Hopkins, Amos Hopkins and Roger Hopkins; and grandchildren, Victoria Milligan and Rosa Milligan.
He was a truck driver for more than 40 years and retired from Unifi. He was one of the founding members of Temple Baptist Church and served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Shelor Hopkins of the residence, daughters, Elva Hopkins Wilson and husband Ronald Wilson of Martinsville, Sara Hopkins Lawson and fiancé Junior Ayers of Stoneville, N.C., one son, William Thomas Hopkins and wife Karen Hopkins of Martinsville; sisters, Margaret Ray of Charlottesville, and Laura Edwards, Ruby Barnard and Mildred Dodson, all of Stuart; one brother, Robert Hopkins of Martinsville; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral service was held on Monday at Temple Baptist Church with Pastor Don Reynolds officiating. Burial followed the service at Fairystone Baptist Church cemetery.
Memorials may be made to Temple Baptist Church Mission Fund, 125 English Rd. Martinsville, VA.
