Mr. Joseph Winfred Dawson, age 98 of Stuart, Virginia passed away at The Blue Ridge Therapy Connection on Monday, September 25, 2023. He was born in Pittsylvania County on June 11, 1925, to the late John William Dawson and Lillie Vaughn Dawson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruth Riddle Dawson; his second wife, Mary Lou Lawless Dawson; one son, Phil Dawson; one brother, Earl Dawson; and five sisters, Ruth Morrison, Catherine Pilson, Margaret Bennett, Madeline Elgin and Doris Atkinson.  Mr. Dawson proudly and faithfully served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a member of Buffalo Ridge Pentecostal Holiness Church, where he served as a trustee on the church board. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and traveling. He will be remembered for his willingness to always help others in need.

Mr. Dawson is survived by a daughter-in-law, Arline Dawson; two grandchildren, Kent Dawson, and Ward Dawson; stepchildren, Nancy Slate, Dianna Adams, Ronnie Lawless, Donnie Lawless, and Tim Lawless; numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral service for Mr. Dawson will be held on Thursday, September 28, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at Buffalo Ridge Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Kenneth Terry officiating.  Burial will immediately follow the service in the church cemetery. Military rites provided by Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services on Thursday afternoon. Memorial donations may be made to Buffalo Ridge Pentecostal Holiness Church, c/o Naomi Pilson, 202 Bob Kat Lane, Stuart, VA  24171. Moody Funeral Home in Stuart has been entrusted with the arrangements and online condolences may be sent by visiting www.moodyfuneralservices.com.
