July court cases tried

According to Clerk of Court Susan Gasperini, the following cases were tried in Patrick County Circuit Court during July:
• Joshua Allen Jarrard, Stuart, charged with three counts of forcible sodomy, one count nolle prossed on motion of commonwealth’s attorney; second count reduced to domestic assault, found guilty, sentenced to 12 months in jail with all time suspended except 50 days, fined $100 and costs; third count reduced to domestic assault, found guilty, sentenced to 12 months in jail, suspended, fined $100 and costs.
• Jennifer Anne Lunsford, Galax, convicted of assaulting a law enforcement officer, sentenced to five years in prison with all time suspended except one year, assessed costs.
• Harold Lee Allison, Mount Airy, N.C., charged with statutory burglary, found guilty of trespassing, sentenced to 12 months in jail with all time suspended except six months, fined $500 and costs; convicted of petit larceny, sentenced to 12 months in jail, fined $500 and costs.
• James Brandon Bennett, Ararat, convicted of probation violation, court revoked six months of previously suspended sentence, assessed costs.
• Richard Lee Byrd, Patrick Springs, charged with failure to appear in court, found not guilty.
• Vernon Leon Charles, Spencer, convicted of shoplifting, sentenced to five years in prison with all time suspended except six months, assessed $500 fine, costs and restitution, ordered to successfully complete diversion center program; convicted of failure to appear in court, sentenced to six months in jail, suspended, assessed costs.
• Michael H. Cheatham, Patrick Springs, charged with failure to appear in court, case dismissed.
• David Michael Christian, convicted of probation violation, court revoked 90 days of previously suspended sentence, assessed costs.
• James Matthew Conner, Stuart, convicted of shoplifting, sentenced to five years in prison with all time suspended except eight months, assessed costs and restitution; convicted of probation violation, ordered to successfully complete the diversion center program, assessed costs.
• Jimmy Dean Fulp, Westfield, N.C., charged with issuing a bad check, complied with conditions imposed by the court, case dismissed.
• Lonnie Lee Howell, Bassett, convicted of probation violation, court revoked 90 days of previously suspended sentence, assessed costs.
• Sharon King Duncan, Ararat, convicted of possession of a firearm by a felon, sentenced to five years in prison with all time suspended except 10 days, assessed costs.
• David Ray Lunsford, Stuart, charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, case dismissed.
• Raymond Samuel Martin, Stuart, convicted of possession of a Schedule I or II controlled substance, sentenced to five years in prison with all time suspended except 11 months, assessed $300 fine, costs and restitution; convicted of two counts of possession of a Schedule I or II controlled substance, sentenced to five years in prison, suspended, on both counts, assessed $300 fine, costs and restitution on both counts.
• Christopher Hampton Maxwell, St. Augustine, Florida, charged with distribution of a Schedule I or II controlled substance, case nolle prossed on motion of commonwealth’s attorney.
• Randy Phillip Price, Stuart, convicted of driving under the influence, second offense, sentenced to 90 days in jail with all time suspended except 20 days, fined $900 with all suspended except $400, ordered to successfully complete the Alcohol Safety Action Program (ASAP); charged with failure to appear in court, found not guilty.
• Joey Leander Spencer, Stuart, convicted of possession of a firearm by a felon, sentenced to five years in prison with all time suspended except 255 days, assessed costs.
• Sebastian Walker, Blacksburg, charged with sale of marijuana, found guilty of disorderly conduct, fined $500 and costs; charged with possession of a Schedule I or II controlled substance, case dismissed.
