The Patrick County High School junior varsity Cougar basketball team played a determined game last Tuesday night and came out on top, defeating Floyd County in overtime.
The Cougars took a 14-6 first quarter lead, but the Buffaloes came back in the second to lead 22-19. At the end of regulation play, the game was tied 40-40.
The Cougars added six points to Floyd’s two to take the victory.
“This was a very intense game with runs by both teams,‚“ said Coach Tony Mosley.
“We did a great job of fighting back in the second half after falling behind by double digits,” he added. “Garrett Worley and Jay Penn played well for us, and Chase Jessup sank a huge free throw and made a key steal for us in overtime to seal the win.”
Friday night the JV Cougars hosted Halifax and lost 58-27.
“We played well until Halifax applied their pressure defense,” said Mosley. “Once that happened, we fell apart.”
I thought Bryson Fulcher and Krishal Some played well for us,” Mosley said.
The JV Cougars played Christiansburg Tuesday night.
