It has been another week of wins for the Patrick County High School junior varsity Lady Cougar basketball squad.

Last Tuesday, the JVs defeated Martinsville 42-29. The winning continued Thursday with a 57-29 win over Magna Vista and Friday’s 39-35 win over Halifax.

Sierra Hubbard scored 19 points while Amanda Ramey added 12 points in Tuesday’s win against the Lady Bulldogs in Martinsville.

“We had a lot of turnovers and missed shots, but we gutted it out for a tough win,” said Coach Donny Rakes.

Martinsville led by one at half time and the game was tied at the end of the third period.

“Then Sierra (Hubbard) took over the game with 11 points in the fourth,” Rakes said.

Thursday’s game against Magna Vista was a “good team win,” according to Rakes.

Ten different Lady Cougars scored during the contest.

“We shared the ball well, rebounded the ball and forced a lot of turnovers defensively,” he added.

Sierra Hubbard scored 13, Savannah Roberts added 12 and Erin Keith scored seven points.

Friday’s win over Halifax County was a “gutty win for the girls.”

The Lady Cougars were playing their third game in four days, and “frankly, we were pretty worn down,” Rakes said, “and it showed.”

“Hats off to Halifax—they brought a lot of pressure and played hard,” Rakes said. “We found a way to win.”

“A special shout-out to Amanda Ramey: with the score 33-31 and 1:13 left, she scored six straight points to seal our victory,” Rakes said.

The Lady Cougar JVs picked up their 12th win in a row. Their record is 15-4.

They played at Hidden Valley Monday, at Abingdon tonight (Wednesday) and will be at home Thursday against Tunstall.
