JV Softball suffers loss to Halifax

By Ashlee Mullis

The JV Lady Cougars Softball Team lost 5-13 to the Lady Comets of Halifax on April 24. Lainie Hopkins took the loss in the circle striking out five and walking three. The game went eight innings, with the Cougars  and the Comets tied in the seventh inning, but the team made five errors in the eighth and lost the game.

Brooke Meade and Samantha Harris had two hits each for the Lady Cougars. Emily Bryant, Hopkins, Shakira Johnson, and Tessa Haas all had one hit each. Hopkins also added a triple.

“I am super proud of my girls” Coach Megan Conner said. “They battled well and played really good defense in seven innings against a really tough Halifax team. I would have loved to get this win, but our errors killed us in the eighth inning. Lainie pitched an excellent game, keeping the hitters off balance and keeping the majority of the hits in the infield.”
