Fresh Harvest Christian Church (D.O.C.)

I received an email recently which was to make an appeal to support a cause.  The particular cause was simply titled “Faith-based.” I will share a bit of that email below:

“Faith consists in believing when it is beyond the power of reason to believe” – Voltaire

Each of us demonstrates faith in different ways. For some, faith permeates daily life.  For others, faith becomes more relevant when times get tough. Support faith-based efforts as each seek to make the world a better place for all. Through supporting communities spiritually and physically, faith-based services provide shelters for our homeless residents, feed the hungry, care for the sick and elderly, and educate our children through youth programs. They even often provide resources and counseling services during challenging times.

I was intrigued by this email. My mind immediately went to what we as Believers are required to do. It is not simply to say we believe; we must know what and in whom we believe. Believing also requires us to know the up, the down, the side, the round – everything about that which we believe. As Christians, we confess that we believe that Jesus is the Son of God, that He lived, died, and rose again that “we” might have eternal life. We believe that His blood was shed on Calvary, on a cross where nails (the size of railroad spikes) were driven into his hands and feet and we believe that even there on the cross, he was still on assignment and told one of the two thieves that hung next to Him that he (the thief) would join him in Paradise. We have an assignment as Believers.

What must we do as Believers? It is written that we must love others as Christ loved us (John 15:12).  We are to do good and not forget to share (Hebrews 13:16). We are to carry each other’s burdens (Galatians 6:2). We are to be ready to help (Romans 12:13). We are to help the poor (Proverbs 19:17).  We are to let our good deeds shine so that our heavenly Father gets the praise (Matthew 5:16). We are to look out for the interests of others (Philippians 2:4). We are to satisfy the hungry and thirsty; we are to visit the sick, and the imprisoned (Matthew 25:44-45).  We are to show our faith (James 2:14-17).  And the list goes on.

We have an assignment as Believers. Be not weary in doing good. At the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. (Galatians 6:9). Keep believing. Keep the faith.
