Judy Lacks, a former Patrick County superintendent, will serve as the interim principal at Patrick Springs Primary School, according to Dr. J. David Martin, who is serving as acting superintendent of the school division.

Lacks, who retired in June 2007, will fill the slot vacated by Marci Murphy. On Thursday, July 18, the Patrick County School Board accepted Murphy’s resignation.

Murphy accepted a potion with Danville City Schools, Martin said.

She joined the Patrick County school division in August, 2015 as assistant principal at Stuart Elementary School. Murphy was appointed principal of Patrick Springs Primary School in August, 2017.

Her decision to accept the post “was not an easy decision because I love my job. The last two years have been the best in my career as an instructional leader,” Murphy said. “PSPS is an amazing school with a wonderful staff. Patrick Springs is a successful school because of the dedication to students by the staff,” she added.

Her love of literacy is evident when walking through halls in the school. The walls and some doors are filled with Murphy’s paintings, which depict some of her favorite children’s books.

A search will be conducted to find a permanent replacement, Martin said.

The position has been posted on the Patrick County website, a release stated. Interested candidates are encouraged to apply. A principal selection committee will be created and made up of parents, staff and division representation.
