The Patrick County High School foursome of Armonte Carter, Emma Hubbard, Lindsey Marshall, and Autumn Hubbard earned All-State honors in the 4×400 relay at the 3A State Outdoor Track meet last Wednesday.
The race was scheduled to have been run last Saturday when stormy weather hit the Harrisonburg area.
The girls ran an “incredibly gritty” race and finished in eighth place, which earned them All-State honors.
“The ladies really worked together as a team today, and we are extremely proud of them. What’s more impressive than their All-State finish is that they ran it out of the second heat, beating four of the top-ranked teams from the first heat. This was a very well deserved All-State finish,” said Coaches Danel and Kali Slaydon.
“There were 103 teams represented at this year’s 3A State meet, and our girls team finished in 11th place overall with 14 points,” they said.
“Track and field is typically a numbers game, but what we lack in quantity, we more than make up for in quality. Our athletes came into the state meet ready to perform, and they certainly did not disappoint,” the Slaydons said. “We had a great year and are already looking forward to the 2017 track season,” they said.
