The Patrick County High School Lady Cougar soccer team lost three games last week, but according to Coach Sandra Rakes, the team is showing improvement.
“We are seeing a lot of improvement in this team. With each game we play, we are becoming more aware of the areas that we need to work on and we continue to work hard,” Rakes said.
Last Monday the Lady Cougars lost to a powerful Christiansburg team 0-12.
Tuesday, the Lady Cougars traveled to George Washington of Danville and lost 0-7.
“We played a good first half,” Rakes said. “Defensively, we were strong the first half, holding them to only two goals. We had a couple of injuries in the second half that kind of threw us off our game that night.”
Thursday the Lady Cougars hosted Tunstall and lost 2-1.
“We played really well against Tunstall. Tunstall scored a goal about midway through the first half and we held them to that until the last 10 minutes of the game when Brooke Holt scored for the Cougars on an assist from Elizabeth Cole to even the score,” Rakes said “Then, just seconds before the whistle blew to end the game, Tunstall managed to score for a second time to win the game 2-1.”
“Being a young team, we are still getting used to working with each other on the pitch. From the beginning, this team showed potential, and now we are working to capitalize on that. We look forward to watching our players grow and having a great season,” Rakes said.soccer-brooke Holt soccer taylor worley
