Due to rainy weather, the Patrick County High Lady Cougar softball team had to wait four days to get their Regional playoff first round game on June 2 against Dan River. After giving up a first inning home run, the Lady Cougars came right back with two runs in the bottom of the first, and would get the win, 10-5.
Lady Cougar starting pitcher Hayden Lawless, after giving up the first inning home run, struck out the next two batters and held Dan River scoreless for the next 4 innings, striking out six.
After being honored in a pre-game ceremony, senior Lilly Hazelwood led the Lady Cougars at the plate, going 3-4 with a home run and 3 RBIs. Journey Moore was 3-3 on the night with 2 RBIs and Hayden Lawless was 1-3 with 3 RBIs.
The next night, the Lady Cougars made the trip to the Botetourt Sports Complex in Troutville for the regional semi-final matchup with Chatham, falling 7-0 to end their season.
The Lady Cougars finished the season with a 17-5 record.
