The Patrick County High School Lady Cougar volleyball team entered the second round of Conference 32 competition last Tuesday night and lost to a powerful Blacksburg team in three sets: 12-25, 21-25, 20-25.
Abby Hutchens had 14 kills and 17 digs; Melanie Roberson recorded 18 assists, 19 digs and three aces.
The Lady Cougars finished the season with a 17-4 record.
“This was an awesome season,” Coach Heidi Moore said. “We only lost to Blacksburg and Franklin County the whole season,” she added.
“We got better and better as the season progressed,” she said, “and we competed with Blacksburg Tuesday night, playing them better than we did earlier. That was a good thing,” she said. “We just needed to play a little bit better and win a few more sets to give us confidence,” Moore said.
“Overall, we had an amazing season. The girls learned a lot and it was a lot of fun,” she said.
The Lady Cougars are losing four “big” seniors. “They did a lot for the team,” Moore said, “but you always have to look forward to the next year to see what the younger ones will bring into the game and what they have learned from the seniors,” she said.
The Lady Cougars will take a few weeks off before winter travel volleyball begins—an option that several of the team will compete in. “We will then start on plans and conditioning for next season—it never really stops,” Moore admitted.vbll-abby-hutchens-slams-kill vball-shelby-bryant vball-morgan-izzy
