It was a tough senior night for the Patrick County High School Lady Cougars softball team last Friday night. They lost to the Franklin County Lady Eagles 17-3. Patrick County’s record fell to 12-3 on the season.
Brandi Woods led the Lady Cougars going 2-3 at the plate, including a solo home run. Abby Hutchens also had a solo homer and was 1-3 at the plate. Morgan Hughes reached on an error and scored on a wild pitch.
“Defensively, we played solid. We did have two errors, but the ball was put in play a lot and we did a good job,” said Coach Roger Wilson. “We were tied through four innings, 2-2, and then they went up 7-2 in the fifth,” he explained.
“After going three-up-and-three down in the bottom, the sixth inning was hard. They got 10 runs in the inning. With our 3, 4 and 5 batters up, we had a lot of work to do,” he said. “Abby was the only one to reach with her HR.”
“This was our senior night and hated it for them, but we are now ready for the post season and know what we are needing to work on,” Wilson said. “We have two more games on the road to finish the season and then it’s on to conference,” he said.
The Lady Cougars played at Magna Vista Monday night and traveled to George Washington of Danville Tuesday night.sftbll-morgan hughes safe
