The Patrick County High School Lady Cougar soccer team fell to both Hidden Valley High School and Martinsville in two tough-fought matches last week.
Last Monday the Lady Cougars hosted Hidden Valley and were shut out 9-0.
Friday evening, the Lady Cougars hosted Martinsville and lost a very physical battle 3-2.
The Lady Bulldogs scored with six minutes left in the first half.
With just moments remaining in the first half, Z Cole scored for the Lady Cougars on an assist from Candace Freeman to tie the score 1-1 at the half.
Martinsville scored again early in the second half to take the lead 2-1.
Brooke Holt gave an assist to Candace Freeman to score for Patrick County, evening the score to 2-2.
Martinsville scored again on a corner shot with about 10 minutes left in the game.
The Lady Cougars were unable to put the ball into the net for the remainder of the game, losing 3-2.
“This was a very physical game for both teams,” said Coach Sandra Rakes. “Our offense did a good job getting the ball up the field and taking shots. Defensively, we did well winning the 50/50 balls.”
The Lady Cougars hosted Magna Vista Monday night for the final regular-season game.
The schedule for tournament action has not been posted.soccer goalie Maya Watson soccer-Candace Freeman soccer-Z Cole
