Last week was a confidence-boosting week for the Patrick County High School Lady Cougar volleyball team They defeated George Washington of Danville, Martinsville and Magna Vista—two in three sets and one in four.
Last Monday the Lady Cougars hosted the Lady Eagles of GW of Danville and won in three sets, 25-9, 25-6 and 25-7.
Sydney Biggs had 20 aces and four kills while Izzy Beasley added four kills and four aces. Ashlee Mesot had 12 assists and two aces.
Tuesday, they traveled to Martinsville to play the Lady Bulldogs. The set scores were 25-11, 25-11, and 25-16.
Ashlee Mesot had 12 assists and four aces and Morgan Biggs had five kills. Izzy Beasley, Sydney Biggs and Shelby Bryant each had four kills.
At Magna Vista Thursday, PC won in four sets, 25-23, 21-25, 25-14 and 25-22.
Ashlee Mesot and Taylor Vernon each had 19 assists. Sydney Biggs had 16 kills and 16 digs while Jenna King had 20 digs and eight aces.
“This week was a great confidence boost for our team,” said Coach Heidi Moore. “The ladies grew as a team and competed even when being down,” she added. “The players are listening to ways to improve their skills and continue learning volleyball,” Moore explained.
“Next week (yesterday) we play Bassett at home, which is always a good matchup. We lost to them in the beginning of the season in four sets,” she said. “We will work on their tendencies the next few days and prepare for the game,” Moore said.
The Lady Cougars also play Franklin County Thursday. “We have not faced them yet this season, but they are always a great volleyball team,” Moore said.
