It has been a very busy and fun week at The Landmark Center and Blue Ridge Therapy Connection as residents competed in their own Olympic Games.
Friday, August 5, Landmark resident Linda Hall was handed the “torch” during the opening ceremony. The games began on Monday, August 8, with a corn shucking game between the two facilities. Landmark resident Charlotte Eggleston won a silver medal in this completion.
The games continued on Tuesday with a corn hole game. Landmark resident Linda Hall received the silver medal in this event. Wednesday, Landmark residents, competed in a bean snapping game with Aileen Arden winning a gold medal. Thursday, Blue Ridge residents won all three medals in the water polo game.
Congratulations to all the winners and those who participated in the games. Friday, August 12, all Landmark residents were treated to brownies and ice cream as all winners and participants were recognized; each received a trophy.
Residents welcomed a new volunteer on Saturday, August 6. Pastor Dave Boarman led a worship service at the Landmark Center. Residents enjoyed the service very much and have requested that he return next month.
Tuesday, August 9, residents traveled to a restaurant in Claudville for lunch. Thursday the destination was local shopping in Stuart. Tuesday, August 16, residents enjoyed breakfast in Stanleytown; Thursday they visited the toy museum located in Meadows of Dan.
Beth Ford, historical services assistant, and Becky Turner, volunteer, from the Reynolds Homestead, led the Art Fusion Discussion Group at the Landmark Center on August 9. Residents were motivated to share memories about their own travel experiences. Many shared funny stories during the meeting; triggering joy and laughter.
Resident family and friends are always invited to join us for this program which meets the second Tuesday of each month at 2 p.m. For more information, call (276) 694-3050, extension 4514. or visit www.reynoldshomestead.vt.edu.
Local artist Ursula Allen, along with staff, assisted residents in creating beautiful art work during the Community Art Class on August 11. Residents began by painting a blank canvas then using stencils to add a second dimension to their painting. The result was a beautiful painting to keep or share with others.
Patrick County has so many talented men and women and The Landmark Center is very fortunate to be able to welcome them at Landmark monthly. We thank Mike Hall, The Glory Road Singers, Roger Wells, and Sue Nester. The residents also have a great time when the youth from Abiding Grace Church come for game night. If you would like to become a volunteer, call (276) 694-3050, extension 4514.
Children have gone back to school (August 11), and the residents and staff would like to encourage those students to apply themselves and have a blessed safe year.
Plans and preparations are underway for National Assisted Living Week, September, 11-17. The theme this year is “keep connected.” We will be having guest speakers from the community discussing how technology has changed throughout the years and the impact it has on daily living.
We will also celebrate and recognize our residents, their families, staff, volunteers, and the community around us. Drop by and see what is happening at The Landmark Center.
Until next time – see you at Landmark.
