December is always a busy time at The Landmark Center and this year will be no exception.
The community is invited to join Landmark residents December 1 from 1:30 to 4 p.m. in the dining room for the last Rook Tournament of 2016.
For the first time, The Landmark Center and Blue Ridge Therapy Connection will be entering a float in the Stuart Christmas Parade on Saturday, December 3, in addition to the bus.
On December 6 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. we will be celebrating the 20th anniversary of The Landmark Center. December 10 from 9 to 11 a.m., children 12 and under are invited to join us for breakfast with Santa.
December 18 from 4 to 6 p.m. families are invited to join their resident for dinner as we celebrate Christmas together. If you have any questions about any of the above events please call (276) 694-3050, extension 4501 or 4514.
The next Operation Homefront meeting will be December 6 from 9 to 10 a.m. in the Landmark living room. If you served in the armed forces and wish to connect with others, you are invited to join us. The community is invited to our Family Education Series which is in the Blue Ridge Therapy Connection recreation room. The meetings will cover a variety of topics affecting families and caregivers who are currently caring for a senior citizen. The next Alzheimer’s Support Group meeting will be December 22 at noon at the Landmark Center. December free blood pressure screening locations and times are: December 5, Lowes Foods, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., December 8, Patrick County Seniors, Rotary Field, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., December. 9, Meadows of Dan Seniors’ meal site, 11 a.m. to noon, December 19, Ararat Seniors’ meal site, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., and December 20, Step Seniors, Step meal site, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. For more information, call (276) 694-3050.
Local artists and staff assisted the residents in making items at the community art class on November 10.
November 11, Veterans’ Day, Landmark veterans were honored with a pinning ceremony provided by Mountain Valley Hospice. Thank you to all veterans for your service and making it possible to enjoy the freedom we have in America. Evening entertainment was provided by Roger Wells.
The Patrick County High School senior cosmetology class provided manicures for Landmark residents on November 15. The residents always look forward to talking with the students and getting a complete manicure.
Residents welcomed youth from Abiding Grace Church on November 16 for game night. This is always a fun activity for residents and children.
Bus trips have included lunch at the local Mexican restaurant November 15, the Patrick County Library in Stuart for an adult coloring class November 17, and lunch at Mount Airy, N.C., on November 22.
Jim Purcell led a musical activity Friday morning, November 18. In the afternoon, November birthdays were celebrated with cake, ice cream, and punch while entertainment was provided by Vernon Harris and Shelly Roberts. Birthday gifts were provided by the Landmark activity department. After dinner, residents enjoyed music by the Chords of Faith.
Wednesday, November 23, residents and friends celebrated Thanksgiving a day early with a party. Thanksgiving Day, residents were joined by family and friends for a traditional Thanksgiving dinner. The residents and staff of The Landmark Center pray you had a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving.
