Christmas is a busy time and The Landmark Center is no exception.

Residents welcomed Christmas carolers from numerous churches, students from Trinity Christian School and Stuart Elementary, and Cub Scout Pack #69 from the Patrick Springs and Stuart area.
They also enjoyed Christmas music by the Community Christmas Choir, Mike Hall, Sue Nester, Almost There, Chords of Faith, Mountain View Singers, Jackie Belcher, and youth from Abiding Grace Church. Special thanks to employees from the local Walmart for remembering our residents at this special time of the year.

Residents and their families were honored with a special afternoon at The Landmark Center on December 18. Family members joined their resident for a delicious dinner and sang Christmas carols around the piano after dinner. Special guests, Santa and Mrs. Claus, visited with residents and gave each one a gift.

Landmark residents welcomed students from Patrick County High School’s cosmetology class December 13, 2016, for Spa Day. Each month these students provide resident manicures and conversation. Residents always look forward to being with these young ladies.

The Landmark Hand Bell Choir traveled to the Stuart Walmart Thursday, December 15. The choir, led by Emily Stuphin, activity assistant, performed Christmas carols for shoppers. Thank you for inviting us to be a part of your Christmas celebration.

Taking bus trips is always fun and residents have been on the go traveling to various locations in and around Patrick County. December 19, they rode around to view the Christmas lights and decorations. December 13 they enjoyed lunch at a local restaurant and breakfast on December 8. December 22 and January 5, residents went shopping locally.

Residents traveled to the home of Mary John Hall on December 30, 2016, for a delicious dinner prepared by Hall and friends. Hall’s home was decorated from bottom to top with beautiful Christmas decorations. Thank you for inviting us to your home to celebrate Christmas and the New Year.

Wednesday, December 14, the Patrick County Alzheimer’s Group LLC, along with Santa and his elf, celebrated Christmas with Landmark residents. Each resident received a gift from Santa and delicious refreshments were provided by the Alzheimer’s Group.

Santa’s elf led the residents in singing carols including the “Twelve Days of Christmas.” We would like to thank this busy group for the party and all the hard work they do throughout the year to raise money to provide items for local Alzheimer’s patients.

Providence United Methodist Church provided the resident birthday gifts for the monthly birthday party on December 15. Residents and guests enjoyed cake, ice cream, and punch.
Friday, December 30, residents played the Jeopardy Game, with resident Georgia Goard emerging as the winner. December 31, in the afternoon, residents enjoyed refreshments and fun at the New Year’s Eve party. Refreshments were provided by Landmark Catering and the dietary department.

Residents and the community were invited to the monthly Operation Homefront meeting on January 3 at The Landmark Center. Anyone who served in the U.S. Armed Forces is invited to attend. For more information, call Susan Foster at (276) 694-4416. This event is sponsored by Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care. Refreshment will be provided.

The community is invited to our “Hold Your Hand” Family Education Series on January 19 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Blue Ridge Therapy Connection in the recreation room. Special guest speaker will be Robert W. Haley, attorney at law. The topic for the month is “Asset Management.” For more information, contact Janet Ferraro, (276) 694-7161; or Melinda Collins, (276) 694-3050. Light refreshments will be provided.

Join us on January 24 at noon for the next Alzheimer’s Support Group Meeting at The Landmark Center. For more information, call (276) 694-3050 or (276) 694-7161. This program is sponsored by the Southern Area on Aging, the Landmark Center, and Blue Ridge Therapy Connection. A light lunch will be provided.

We at The Landmark Center wish everyone a blessed and Happy New Year. We wish to thank all those who have volunteered or visited us in 2016. We look forward to making new friends in 2017.
