Ursula Allen, along with other local artists, met with Landmark residents on May 11 for the community art class.
Residents were assisted in creating a beautiful butterfly which they could use to decorate their room for spring, or wear as a pin. Thank you to these faithful volunteers for sharing your talent with us at The Landmark Center.
Landmark ladies spent the morning being pampered with makeovers, manicures, and hair styling on May 12 in preparation for the afternoon Mother’s Day tea. Special volunteers included: Heather Rider, manicures, and friend, Carey, hair stylist, and Robin Rolen and friend for Mary Kay makeovers. Thank you making our residents look and feel so special.
Later, family and friends joined Landmark residents in the dining area for the tea party. Guests enjoyed hot and iced tea, cucumber sandwiches, cheese and crackers, mini-cheesecakes, chocolate cake, and lemon poppy seed cake. Thank you to Thyra Biggs for assisting with the day.
After dinner, residents were entertained by singer Roger Wells.
Beautiful spring pictures were painted by Landmark residents on Saturday morning, May 13, with the assist of volunteers from the TWO Hands Group. This group consists of children and adults who have made it their mission to put a smile on all faces. Residents look forward to their return in June.
Bus trips have included lunch at Bassett Forks on May 16, and the Patrick County Library May 18 for an adult coloring class. Residents went shopping locally May 22, had a Mexican lunch in Martinsville May 23, and took a trip to the train station May 25 in Bassett. Saturday, May 20, residents attended the Strawberry Festival in Stuart. While traveling to the location residents also enjoy the lovely colors of spring.
Laura Clifton celebrated her 100th birthday with family and friends May 17 at The Landmark Center. She has been a resident of The Landmark Center for four years and is most definitely a part of the Landmark family. She loves working jigsaw puzzles and being with family and friends. We love you, Laura!
Landmark residents enjoyed the music of local singer Sue Nester on Tuesday evening, May 16, and the youth from Abiding Grace Church for game night on May 17. Residents look forward to your return in June.
Residents welcomed Jim Purcell and Lynn Wolf for a sing-along Friday morning, May 19. Purcell led the residents as they sing “ole timey songs.” In the afternoon residents celebrated the May birthdays with cake, ice cream, and punch. Resident birthday gifts were donated by Grace Baptist Church.
On National Strawberries and Cream Day, May 21, residents ate fresh strawberries and whipped cream at the afternoon activity. Thank you to the dietary staff for providing this delicious treat.
In between the showers and storms residents have been enjoying the sunshine and birds in the courtyard when possible. Many love to get a “sun tan.” Tuesday afternoon, May 23, we had planned on enjoyed the birds singing and the sunshine while sipping ice cold lemonade and rocking in the rocking chairs; the weather did not cooperate, so we had our lemonade in the game room and we will enjoy the sunshine soon.
Thursday afternoon, May 25, residents welcomed volunteers, Jim and Ellen Saunders, for the “Name That Tune” game. Ellen play tunes on the piano as residents make their guesses; Jim makes the final decision and awards a prize. Everyone has a great time.

On May 23, I traveled to Woolwine Elementary School for my grandson Jackson’s pre-kindergarten graduation. I love this little five-year-old with all my heart and wish only the very best for him in his future. It is my wish, along with the residents and staff of The Landmark Center that all who are graduating this spring have a blessed future.
