The other day while going through some pictures, I came across this one of me on the left and Aunt Margaret Hatcher on the right. I was working there and she was shopping. Lots of good memories there and lots of good food also. This was taken at Greene’s Country Store. I loved working there and the people.

We have had more rain lately and the grass and weeds are growing. The deer ate my tomatoes this time, and left all the apples the winds and storms had blown off the tree. There was hail and some power outages.

I had some special visitors on Thursday night. Mike and Sue Hall came to my house. They have a ministry that is a blessing. Every Thursday they go to someone’s home that is a shut-in, alone or sick. Mike sings for them and Sue brings soup (she brought me a delicious potato soup). Mike sang some of my favorite songs. That’s a good ministry and a blessing. Thank you and I love you for the joy you put in my life.

The Strawberry Festival was nice with lots of people, crafts, food and some beautiful strawberries, home-made ice cream, strawberry shortcake, and Mabe’s was there with beautiful strawberries. I enjoyed the music and I loved the Christian Church Choir. They are so lovely and spiritual.

“Miss” Claudine Wood is doing well with her therapy and loves company and calls. When I checked on her Monday, her daughter Jean was cutting her hair. I’m sure she looks pretty. She’s an amazing lady.

When Mary Ann called from D.C. the other day, she gave me a good hint for keeping white coffee mugs looking nice and new: fill mugs with water and drop in two Polident denture tablets and let stand overnight. In the morning, wash and rinse and you will have nice clean coffee mugs.

The Western night at Patrick Springs Pentecostal Holiness Church was really nice and a lot of fun. Good food also! If you didn’t come, you missed a good time of fun and fellowship.

I’m so sorry to hear of the death of Mr. Ray Hylton. He used to come to church on Wednesday nights until he got sick. We are always glad to see his sister Virginia every Wednesday night at church. Heartfelt sympathy to the family.

Memorial Day is always yardsale mania in our area. They are everywhere and lots of people travel through our area to stop to eat and shop. Let’s not forget the meaning of Memorial Day.

It was nice to eat at Elizabeth’s with the Martin Clan. I’m happy to see Jessica back at work at Elizabeth’s.

So sorry to hear of the death of Mr. Frank Netherland. I always enjoyed his music. My love and heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family!

Household hint:

Make your own cough syrup:

1 pint brown sugar

1 pint water

1 tsp. butter

1 tbl. vinegar

Boil the sugar, water and butter for 30 minutes on medium heat. Do not stir. Add the vinegar and allow the mixture to come to a boil. Remove from heat, but still do not stir.

CHOCOLATE APPLESAUCE CAKE

1 box Duncan Hines chocolate cake mix

1 1/2 c applesauce

1/2 c shortening

3 eggs

1 c walnuts

1 c raisins

1/2 tsp cloves

Mix all the ingredients and bake according to the directions given on the cake mix package.

Food for thought:

Miracles are all around us. If we slow down and pay attention, we will spot them everywhere.
