Lynn Barry Short, 74, of Patrick Springs, VA went to be with his Lord on August 28, 2021. He was born on March 28, 1947 to the late Robert E. Short and Edna Short Kennedy in Lewis, Delaware.
Lynn is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sharon Short, daughter, Moriah Dollarhite and spouse Jimmy Dollarhite, son David Short and spouse Brittany Short, son Mitchell Wayne Tankersley, Jr. and spouse Kim Tankersley, and son Jeffrey Tankersley and spouse Amber Tankersley, and many grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. In addition, surviving are his brother Robert E. Short, Jr and spouse Rose Marie Short, and sister Roberta Hensley, as well as his brother-n-law, Judge John Cook and spouse Grace Cook. Lynn was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters Rebecca Weaver and Norma Lee Boyer.
Lynn was a graduate of Seaford High School in Delaware, and received his Bachelors in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Tech. He served in the United States Navy aboard the USS Leahy during the Vietnam Conflict. After college, he worked for Appalachian Power for many years. Later, he worked for the City of Martinsville, and retired from Virginia Tech Electric in 2016.
Lynn loved to serve others and his community. He worked and served on the Selective Service Board, Boy Scout Pack 69, District Chairman of the Blue Ridge Mountain Council – Patrick County District, Patrick County School Board from January 1, 1988 – December 31, 1995, serving as Chairmen from July 1, 1991 – December 31, 1995. He served as the President of Municipal Electric Power Association of VA from 2010-2012. He was awarded a membership in Sterling Who’s Who as having exhibited excellence in leadership in his chosen field. He was a member of the Stuart Rotary Club, and served on the VA Arabian Horse Association. Most recently, he served as the treasurer of the Cascade Mountain POA. He believed in serving his community in an effort to bring equity for everyone.
However, Lynn’s upmost love was serving his Lord and witnessing to those he came in contact with. He loved his wife, children, and grandchildren. His faith never faltered and was an example to all of living the Christian life. He loved the farm, and building things. He built and remodeled several homes, including his last mountain vacation home in Cascade Mountain. He loved helping others.
Lynn will be greatly missed by his family and friends, but he is at home with his Lord. The family is especially grateful for Dr. Zachery Whitlow’s care and guidance, as well as the doctors and nurses who cared for him as he battled the pneumonia caused from Covid-19 in Lewis Gale Hospital, in Salem, VA.
Lynn attended CrossPoint Church in Ridgeway, VA. His wishes would be for friends and family to donate to their churches and charities in lieu of flowers.
The funeral will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 4, 2021 at Norris Funeral Services in Stuart with Pastor Carl Keith officiating with military rites by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. The family request that all visitors please wear a mask at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Patrick Memorial Gardens in Stuart, VA
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 10:00 am to 11:00 am.
