The June 3rd article on broadband progress in Patrick County is a very frustrating read, and I am not sure attending the meeting would have been any clearer. The county should be able to provide citizens with all of the following:
• a clear plan
• a timeline
• a current and planned coverage map
• a list of any obstacles and solutions
• a single point of contact
I would specifically like to know the following:
1. Why are several companies participating in what should be a simple process in 2026?
2. How will the county address funding shortfalls to ensure universal access to broadband?
3. Which communities, if any, will be excluded, and why?
This process seems overly complicated. Residents deserve transparency on something so important.
