Miss Macie Iowa Puckett, 87, passed away August 9, 2022, at the VA Center in Hollidaysburg, PA where she has resided since November 2017.

She was born February 24, 1935, in Patrick County, VA to the late Herman Banner “Buddy” and Mina Bowman Puckett. She was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law Libby and Jim Gay; four brothers Vance, Quinten, Reggie, and Eddie Puckett.

Macie was a graduate of Blue Ridge High School Class of 1953 and entered the US Army shortly after graduation. She was always proud of her military service and in 2003, donated a Veteran’s Memorial to the community at Doe Run Church Cemetery in Ararat. Macie was ever grateful for the opportunity her military service provided for her to complete nurses training and enjoy an almost 50-year career working primarily as an OB-GYN nurse. She loved the babies she helped bring into the world and she stayed in touch with many of the mothers she assisted. During her working years, Macie worked in hospitals in several states and retired from Northern Regional Hospital and the Mount Airy OB-GYN Clinic.

Surviving are one brother and sisters-in-law, Raleigh and Shelby Puckett of Ararat, Irene Puckett and Verdine Puckett of Mount Airy, and Jolene Puckett of Springfield, MO; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Ken and Diane Joyner of Harrisburg, NC and Jeff Puckett and family, Mechanicsburg, PA.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 PM at the Doe Run Church Cemetery, Friday August 12, 2022, with Rev. Terry Vaughan officiating with full military rites conducted by the VFW Honor Guard Mt. Airy Post 2019 and Pilot Mountain Post 9436. In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial contributions be made to Doe Run Baptist Church, Cemetery Fund, 903 Doe Run Road, Ararat, VA 24053.
