Maloo joins staff at Twin County Regional Healthcare

Twin County Regional Healthcare announced Dr. Manoj K. Maloo, MD.FACS is the newest member of the medical staff.

Dr. Maloo will join Twin County Surgery located at 225 Hospital Drive, Galax, Va.

He received his medical degree from S.M.S. Medical College, Jaipur, Rajasthan, India, followed by completion of General Surgery training from St. Agnes Hospital in Baltimore, MD which included training at Children’s Hospital, Boston as well as Clinical/Research fellowships’ at the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital, Boston, MA in Clinical Nutrition. His post-residency training followed in the completion of a Multi-Organ Transplant fellowship at Strong Memorial Hospital at the University of Rochester, Rochester, NY.

He has practiced multi-organ transplantation for a decade, including being instrumental in the start of the first deceased organ donor program as well as the first Liver Transplant program in Rajasthan, India.

Dr. Maloo’s practice now includes General Surgery, Vascular/Abdominal access procedures for patients with End -Stage Renal Disease and the care of patients with End -Stage Liver Disease in conjunction with his gastroenterology colleagues.

Dr. Maloo is board-certified by the American Board of Surgery with additional certification by the American Society of Transplant Surgeons, including a certificate of added competence in the subspecialty of Multi-organ Abdominal Transplantation and Clinical Nutrition. He has held several academic appointments in both hospital and government positions, nationally and overseas.

He is a member of the American College of Surgeons, American Society of Transplant Surgeons and the Massachusetts Medical Society.

His research work has been in the biology of colon cancer and the study of the natural history of hepatocellular carcinoma.

He has served as a reviewer for national and international journals notable for high impact factors and served on the Cellular Transplant Committee for the American Society of Transplant Surgeons. He has also served as Co/Sub-Investigator in multiple research projects.

He has been actively involved in the teaching of medical and pharmacy school students, surgical and transplant pharmacy residents and transplant fellows over his time at academic institutions.

Dr. Maloo has authored numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals, written multiple book chapters, having presented at national and international conferences.
