Katherine Martin, a senior at Patrick County High School, is the first Girl Scout in Patrick County to earn the Triumph Award.
This award gave Katherine a lifetime membership in Girl Scouting. In order to receive this award, a Girl Scout must have completed the Bronze, Silver, and Gold Awards.
Katherine completed her Bronze in 2010 by cleaning several flower beds, putting down mulch cloth, mulch, and planting flowers at Wayside Park in Stuart.
In 2013, Katherine earned the Silver Award by purchasing several copies of her favorite book and recording herself reading it. Each recording and book was then donated to the preschool classes in the Patrick County School System.
For her Gold Award in 2015, Katherine, along with fellow scouts, designed and prepared a memory garden at the Patrick County Developmental Center in Stuart. This project required that the garden area be cleared and made level. Once the garden area was ready, Katherine purchased and installed edging around the memory garden and purchased a bench for the garden.
She then worked alongside other scouts to install bricks in the garden with the names of the clients, plant greenery, and install sculptures. She also made thank you cards, and held a dedication ceremony at the Developmental Center.
Katherine has been a member of Girl Scouts since she was in kindergarten. She is the daughter of Toby and Mary Martin of Spencer.
